The Three Musketeers (1973) Shelley Elbourne crafted this beautiful title sequence for director Richard Lester. Lester shot actors Michael York and Joss Ackland with rimlit lighting to enhance the later effects work. Shelley offset multiple exposure passes in the optical process, resulting in a hypnotic stroboscopic appearance. The technique was inspired from the 1968 award winning film 'Pas de Paux' by the National Film Board of Canada's Norman McLaren.
